Mike has been working with inner processes for many years, beginning with an extensive training and background in professional theatre, and then continuing with a university education in theology and pastoral theology which paralleled an ongoing interest in the contemplative traditions both East and West. This opened a pathway to train as a teacher and then as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

He is also a transpersonal psychology practitioner, having completed extensive training in this field spanning more than twenty years, which included training with two of the founders of transpersonal psychology in the UK: Ian Gordon-Brown and Barbara Somers. He has a longstanding interest in the evolution and practical application of transpersonal psychologies, and his thinking and practice is also informed by an ongoing interest and training in the related fields of Jungian psychology, ecopsychology and the contemplative traditions. He has taught in a range of settings both in the UK and sometimes farther afield.

His therapeutic practice is primarily with individuals, although he occasionally facilitates dream groups in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. Alongside this he practises as a consultant/supervisor.

He is a former Chair of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners.
